Weekend Rewind

August 5, 2013

Saturday was pretty laid back!  The girls and I all went to karate between 9am and 1pm.  The girls weekend classes are at 9 and 9:30, after which we enjoyed kolaches, and did a little house cleaning.  (Although to look at it now, I wouldn't believe it really happened).

I went to the adult class at noon, and then after the girls and I took off to try to find Makaila a pair of khaki pants - the last things she claims to NEED before school starts.  We tried Kohl's, Palais Royal, Macy's, Forever 21, Aeropostal, Abercrombie, and then finally, she found a pair at JC Penney's that she liked!!

Shopping with Makaila is exhausting.  I love to shop, but that child is SOOO picky and we are reaching the point of complete disagreement in the wardrobe department, so needless to say at this point I was ready to be done at the mall.  (If you do not yet have the blessing of a teenager daughter - brace yourself - its great for them to grow up and be independent; however it is most definitely a trying time in the patience department)

We came home to find Danny was up and ready to go...we all headed over to Uncle Ernie's and Aunt Sarah's for some pool time.  I laid out to get some sun, while Isabella played in the pool ALL NIGHT. The girl stayed in the pool well after the sun went down and her toes looked comparable to that of a 98 year old womans - wrinkles galore!! Ceci invited the girls over to spend the night, and of course they jumped on it!!!

Danny and I headed home alone, but before we made it to the beltway he showed me a new gambling app on his phone to play slots on.  I said - "Ohh we should go to the casinos for real, since we don't have the kids."  We turned around at the beltway and headed to Louisiana.  He didn't need to be told twice.  We had a great time at the Isle of Capri casinos until 4am when we decided to all it quits and head back home.  I slept on the way home so that I could be rested to serve at church in the morning.   Sounds silly, I know - but the agreement was we could go the casinos all night as long as he had me home in time for church!!

Sunday service was great as usual.  Pastor Kerry is back and he started a new series called Shark Weakness (to coincide with the start of Shark week on the Discover channel).  The message focused on the survival of the attacks on our marriages.

I'll share some of my service notes with you:

The top five attacks on marriages are as follows:
  1. Money
  2. Sex
  3. In-Laws
  4. Children
  5. Communication issues
Steps to surviving the attacks:
  1. Prepare and protect -
    • expect difference -go into your relationship knowing the differences between you and your partner and learn to appreciate them
    • Meeting Needs  - stop trying to meet their needs with yours; learn to love him in his own language
    • Hidden Anger  - most people take anger one of two ways; they are like a puffer fish and blow up - get overly emotional and cause chaos and devastation in the wake of anger others are like giants clams and shut off completely, stuff their anger down and let it turn into bitterness.  We should learn to communicate our feelings, be honest, share our opinions, and accept our part of the blame.
  2. Manage Inevitable Anger -
    • Don't avoid it - Manage it!!
    • Don't clam up and don't blow up
    • Attack the problem not each other
  3. Identify the real attacker and the true protector
    • Your battle is not against your spouse, it is against Satan's goal to destroy you.
    • Satan likes to create confusion and bitterness
    • Everyone comes into relationships broken (with issues and baggage) - but God can heal us and build something great!!
    • Learn to strenghthen each other!  Be self-help-less.
After church I washed my car, went to Half Price books and Tuesday Morning, while my partner in crime caught some zzz's!
When I got home, we went to get the girls, and came home to relax.  Makaila worked on some laundry while I made dinner, and Danny worked on his car.

It was a very uneventful weekend, but I am grateful for it.  Spending time with my family, my girls, Danny's family, and alone time with Danny....who could ask for more? We are blessed to have family so close, and to be surrounded by people who love us and share their lives with us.
Thanks to my sister Erica for having us over for dinner
Thanks to my sister-in-law Ceci for watching the girls
Thanks to Danny for taking me on an impromptu casino date
Thanks to God for all our health and the blessings we have in abundance!!

Here's to Monday!!
