Trip to New York (Post 3)

July 8, 2015

On Sunday - July 5th we slept in late (we were all dead tired from the long walk the night before).  We got up and going at about 11 and took our tour bus over to the Bronx.  We ate breakfast at the Yankee Cafe (right outside Yankee Stadium), and then headed in for a Yankees game.  While we are NOT Yankees fans, we thought it would be a good experience and knew Ivan would love it!

It was scorching hot! The stadium is set up nostalgic like and out seats were bleacher seats and the sun was right on us since it was mid day - I couldn't take it.  I went walking around instead and took pictures in the museum, and toured the stadium.

By the 4th inning Erica and the kids couldn't take it anymore either and were ready to leave.  I felt bad for Ivan because this was all for him and he didn't look happy to leave!

We sat out by the bus stop for about an hour waiting for our bus and it never came!!  Meanwhile Erica had a shouting match with a bum and embarrassed the crap out of use (especially her kiddos), and the mood was set for the rest of the day...we ended up taking the subway back to Time Square and splitting up.  The subway ride was an awesome experience because a man and his kids loaded and payed the drums/ congos for us and it felt just like what you see in the movies...it was pretty cool!

Makaila and I decided to spend the rest of our day shopping for souvenirs and then see a Broadway show.  We went to get our tickets to Aladdin, only to find out that the last show was at 3, and we had missed it.  Monday was blackout night so our chances of seeing Aladdin on this trip  were done!  We were pretty bummed.  We decided to go into the Time Square Toys R Us and we made Issy a Statue of Liberty/ I love New York Bear!

On our way in, someone stopped us to try to get us to buy tickets to Chicago...we took the flyer and after we finished with our bear we walked the few blocks to the Theater and bought the best seats they had for the Chicago 7 pm showing!  We were excited.  We still had a little over an hour, so we decided to walk over to Hell's Kitchen and get a bite to eat!  We ate at a cute little Latin Bistro and the food was fantastic.

We walked back over to the theater district and found a cute cupcake shop on the way there.  We ducked in and Makaila treated me to a cupcake,  It turned out to be owned by the girl on Criminal Minds.  The guy there was super friendly and the window seat was adorable!

We got to the show and before the 1st half was over Makaila realized we had left our bear at the cupcake shop!  during intermission we ran back to the shop to find that the guy was there staying open waiting for us to come back.  It was so sweet! We ran back to the theater to catch the rest of the show.  It wasn't at all what I expected but we loved it.  Moesha was the star of the show so we stayed after and got our pictures taken with her and she signed our playbill!

We walked back toward our hotel and made a pit stop at Juniors for Cheesecake,  Neither Makaila nor I eat Cheescake - but it was a cultural experience we didn't want to miss out on.,  We took some sliced back to the room with us for the rest of our clan to try. They told us all about their evening (they went biking) and then we all started to pack.  Our trip was coming to an end.

Monday morning we woke up at about 10 and headed out to Time Square for he last time.  We ate breakfast at the Terminal Cafe.

Makaila and I walked to get another Disney Bag and the last of our souvenirs.  When we got back to the hotel the kids were laid out on the benches and said their mom left them their because she was getting her nails done!  We called the trip done and took the subway to the airport.  It took a lot longer than I thought which I was glad we headed out early for it.  The trip didn't end as happy as I would have liked but overall it was a great trip overall, I think it was too long - and I was sad we did so much shopping and not as mush site seeing - but there will definitely be a next time for us!  I would love to bring Izzy and Danny to see New York. Danny and Izzy picked us up from the airport and I was starved to see them!  We got dinner at Los Vega and ate together and talked about our trip.

Back to work tomorrow!
