Tina's Funeral

November 24, 2014

I went to work this morning in a somber mood.  Today Tina will be put to rest and I can't stop crying about her.  I think what hurts more is the reality that we are getting older and our parents are too.  That realization that one day my mom will pass and that I don't want that day to come.  I hurt to see my mom hurt, I hurt knowing that I could have shown her more love and I didn't.

The funeral was beautiful.  We had a mass at Our Lady of Fatima.  There were tons of people, I saw many of the kids that tina took care of over the years.  Many people that have known and loved her tamales all over Galena Park.  It was beautiful.

At her graveside there were mariachi's and they played so beautifully, and I was a basketcase of tears!  I told Elsa and Guillermo and Carlos that I loved their mother like I love my own, which is the complete truth.

I kissed the girls goodbye (they went home with my parents for the week - since there is no school for Thanksgiving week), and I went back to work for the rest day.

I got home right when Danny did and we spent our evening cuddling on the couch watching tv.

We called it a night early and I prayed for my girls and for Tinas soul and for the blessings taht God pours down on us day after day!

Have a great week and call the ones you love.

Chili Cook Off Weekend Rewind

Friday I stayed home and did a morning time Scrapbook gathering!  I ran a few errands in the morning and then had some of the ladies come by and scrapbook with me during the day.  I had too much going on this weekend to get it all done in the evening, and it seemed to work out!

Claudia came and loved it, Cynthia swung by, and so did Amy.  We scrapbooked and chit chatted until about 3, and then I cleaned up and loaded my car to head out to Traders Village.  I had to do set up for the Go Texan Chili Cook-off.  I have never attended this event, but since I am Vice Chairman of social events...I had to go this year!

The weather was bad....so we spent a few hours setting up and then made plans to be there early in the morning for some more! Issy and I left the grounds and headed over to Ceci and Rays to celebrate Alec's birthday dinner.  We hung out for awhile, and then when I decided I needed to head home the girls decided to stay!  I went home solo.

I woke up early Saturday morning and headed out to pick up breakfast and finish the setup.

It was a long day.  I arrrived at the cook-off by 6:30 and spent the rest of my day selling t-shirts and watching folks get wasted! LOL  It was fun, the weather was dreary and I was tired!  At about 2 Teresea came by and kept me company. We chit chatted about the kids, Christmas adn all the looneys around us! LOL

At about 3:30 Danny came to join us too.  His friends Cynthia and Gilbert came adn we hung out together for awhile, and sampled all the different chili's.  By 6, I was done...I loaded up and we headed home.  Danny and I stopped at Academy, and drove home. I think we were both asleep by 8pm!!!

I was exhausted!!  Ceci and Ray brought the girls to church with them.

Church Notes: Part 2 of Series: Marriage Mystery - Discovering the Secrets of a Lasting Love.

1. The world is not enough : Respect.  Meaning your love is not enough without respect.  You have to put your mates significance over success.  Respect his judgement.  Respect his abilities.  Respect his accomplishments.

2. Live and let die: Confidence.  Every man feels inadequate and insecure; you must boost him with your cheers.  Focus on your true identity over temporary performance.  A wife can give her husband affirmation.  Men are wired to provide for their families and their egos are fragile.

3. For your eyes only: Companionship  Value love over lust.  Know that Satan is always around and likes to tempt you!  Women see sex as a form of affection and not sexual touch, while men see it for sexual fulfillment.  Sexual fulfillment give him confidence  and makes him feel loved and desired.

4. Tomorrow never dies: A transcendent cause.  He wants to make a difference.  Choose purpose over profits.

As a wife I need to be understanding!  A man must choose to be disciplined.  As a couple we must pray together and for each other.

After church we headed home and I got a text message from my friend Misty.  I hadn't hung out with her in ages and she was inviting us over to watch the game.  I ran into them a church this morning and was not expecting this but it made me smile.  I told Danny and we loaded up to head to their house.
We hung out and ordered Mexican food.  It was nice to hang out with old friends.  The kids played well together and we took tons of cute pictures of them.

The Texans lost, but we had a great time.  I love that my friends are forever friends.  That even if we can't see each other often and the business of life drifts us apart;  that we can pick up where we left off and things are great.  I love my girlfriends!!!

We left there and did some picking up around the house and then later that evening we headed out to attend Tina's wake.  It was a somber evening.  We stopped at HEB on our way out and picked up some flowers, and Danny sat out back while I joined my parents and sisters in the Funeral chapel.  We paid our respects to this woman that we loved dearly.  To my moms friends and to our friends mother.  It so sad to loose someone only to feel like you wish that you could have loved them more when you had them.  I wish wholeheartedly that I would have visited Tina more and that I would have expressed my love for her that sadly I didn't realize I felt so strongly about until her loss!

After the wake my sisters and I took my parents out to dinner to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary!  Can you believe that!?!  That is a freakin long time to be married!! It was a bittersweet evening.  I loved seeing all my sisters together and having dinner with my parents and laughing and sharing (its a rarity for us), but my heart ached for the loss of an amazing woman that had some a major impact in who I am!

I'm gunna start my week hoping and praying that Tina is an angel in heaven watching over me, and that Danny and I are married for 40 years and still as cute and in love as my parents are!  (Although I hope we don't have to go through all the crap my parents did) LOL

RIP Tina

November 20, 2014

I had to take a late lunch today at work because I needed to drive over to Reliant Stadium to pick up some Rodeo Committee t-shirts from the vendor for our chili cook-off this coming weekend.  I was sitting at a light and clicked the facebook app.  I know I should not be on my phone when I am driving.  Typically I am not.  I dont even take my phone out of my purse, but this was one of those unexplainable compelling moments where I did it without even realizing it.  One of those divine intervention moments.

I was drawn to it, and I was heartbroken to see why.  Right on the top of my personal news feed was a post from Guillermo that his mom Tina had passed away.  I missed the light because I sat there in shock.  I had to read and re-read his posting that Tina passed away that morning.  I started to sob uncontrollably.

Tina was my babysitter growing up.  She baby sat me and each one of my sisters, and some of my nephews and nieces.  She was my second mother just about.  She loved me and I loved her.  Much more than I had even really considered.  I picked up my shirts handled my business, and then on my way back to the office I called my mom to give her the news.  My mom was just as heartbroken as I was.  She sobbed and screamed in disbelief.  She couldn't believe that her friend had passed Away.  She said she had just talked to her the week before.  Hearing my moms cries for her friend took their toll.  I took some time before going back to work because I was pretty torn up.  '

I called my sisters to tell them too.  I went back to work and then cried my whole ride home too.  I really wish I would have visited her more as an adult.  I wish I would have spent more time with her and visited her more often.  When we had the shop in Galena Park a few years back she would come in there during the days and visit with me and check on me and lecture me and I loved it!!!!

The only consolement I have for her is that she is now my angel in heaven and not on earth!!

Tina - I loved you so so very much and I will miss you dearly~

Nutcraker Market Weekend Rewind

November 17, 2014

Friday I left work a tad early and joined my sister Sam at Reliant for Nutcracker market!!!

It never disappoints.  I bought so many random things that I loved.  We walked around for about 3 hours, and right off the bat...I bought a giant lantern for my front porch...that I loved! Bad move - because I had to carry it around the rest of the time.....but I loved it!!

After Nutcracker Market I headed home and got all our stuff ready for Saturday.  Danny had to work, so the girls and I woke up early loaded our gear up and headed to the Katy Tournament!  It was the final of 5 Texas Tournaments that we committed to doing this year! What a relief...all this tournament traveling takes its toll! Katy was the closest one...so it wasn't too bad...but I'm glad its the last one for this year!

We did great.  Izzy was in a really large ring of 9 girls and she did great.  She had a three way tie for 2nd place on her form, and messed up on her second presentation..but I think she did great.  WIth that many girls and her size she did not place in sparring either...but I got a great video of her first match which she dominated!  I was very proud of her.

Makaila's ring was called at about 1, and she did great.  Unfortunately I was called shortly before her ring got started, so I was unable to watch her form.  I was placed into the ring right next to hers so I was able to see her spar.  She ended up placing third in sparring and combat sparring.  I was super excited for her.  She was in a pretty big ring too.  There were 8 girls in her ring this time.

I ended up placing 3rd in forms for my group and taking 1st place in sparring!  I was pretty pleased with that!

Once we were done competing, we stayed around to cheer on some of our other classmates and then we headed over to Katy Mills to eat and shop.  We stayed there and shopped until we were literally worn out!! We didn't buy much and when we were home we all went straight to bed!!

Sunday morning we got up and headed to church.

Church Notes:
Marriage Mystery Part 1 of Series: Discovering the Secrets to a Lasting Love

Our marriages are under attack by misinformation.

Marriage is a life long journey of gathering clues to understand your mate.  The purpose of marriage is to reflect God's love , to demonstrate it.

* If you want the fire hot at night you have to light the pilot in the morning!!
How to Discover the clues of the purpose of Marriage:
Clue # 1 KITCHEN: - You need to nourish your mates soul.
             * Fill their emotional tanks with words (verbal caresses).  Words kill, words give life; they are either poison or fruit - you choose.

             * Fill their emotional tanks with actions.  Speak love and encouragement.  Focus on encouragement and not competition.
Clue # 2: THE LIBRARY  - Study your mates needs.  Focus on his love language and not yours!  Appreciate his differences.
             * She needs to feel treasured
             * He needs to feel respected.
Clue # 3 THE HALL  - Walk hand in hand with your mate.  Wives submit to your husband as to the Lord.  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. WALK SIDE BY SIDE AS EQUALS.
A husband should lead his wife spiritually.
Clue #4: THE BEDROOM - rest in your commitment to God and to your mate.  There should be a physical, spiritual and emotional oneness.

70 % of Christians (in actual churches) are still married to their 1st spouse (this includes widows).
80% of marriages are happy!!!
Pray together and build your hope

Choose to believe the best.  If your the wife - learn to appreciate your husband and thank him for things that you should be recognizing!  Give him respect! If your the husband - hold her hand, help her with the housework, hold her!

God if faithful sovereign and good.  We can count on him and stand strong in his promises.  I know where my security lies - strongly in the Lord.

Start fresh today in your marriage without judgement or assumption.  The enemy continues to discourage us but he truth can set us free.  Think about the best in this moment!!

Once we were done at church we headed home to watch the Texans game and the girls had a new guy coming over to start guitar lessons.  He showed up at noon, and they each each took thier 45 minute session to refresh on a few things and learn some rules and information.

I am excited that they are learning guitar.  This is a first for Issy but a refresher adn pick up for Makaila.  I hope they continue and really learn!!

Once they were done with thier lessons, we loaded up and headed out to none other than COSTCO!! LOL

Surprised?!! Yeah me neither....we are Costco junkies.  We shopped, got a few things and then headed out.  We stopped at hickory Hollow for an early dinner and it was fantastic...

Danny was so tired.  He got out of work at 7am, and stayed up to go to church, watch the game, listen to the girls guitar lessons, and then Costco trips..,my poor guys was beat!!  Makaila was itching to go to the movies, but instead we rented a movie at the Red Box (The Vow), and we picked up some Bahama Bucks!

The girls and I watched the movie cuddled up on the couch and ate our treats! Danny was sound asleep.  Once our movie ended and we hipped our tears, we got ready for bed and called it a night.
